España se enfrenta a Rusia, favorita al título europeo

Tras estar cerca de dar la sorpresa ante Rumania, el pasado sábado 23 de febrero en Madrid, la Selección española de rugby se desplazará a Krasnodar para enfrentarse a la selección de Rusia, una de las favoritas este año a alzarse con el título continental, el próximo sábado 8 de marzo a las 14.15 horas -12.15 en hora española.

El seleccionador nacional, el inglés Ged Glynn, contará con 23 jugadores para es difícil desplazamiento a Rusia desde mañana martes en la Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas antes de partir hacia la ciudad rusa, al sur del país, de Krasnodar, previo paso por la capital Moscú. Glynn tendrá que enfatizar en el aspecto psicológico de los jugadores, para mantenerles en tensión y con la mentalidad que demostraron en el último partido frente a Rumania, donde estuvieron cerca de derrotar al potente combinado rumano.

Los rusos basan su juego en su potente delantera, que este año les está dando muy buenos frutos ya que se encuentra en la segunda plaza de la clasificación con tres puntos menos que el líder Georgia, pero con un partido menos por disputar. Los rusos sólo han cosechado una derrota, en su visita a Tiflis en la primera vuelta, y ha derrotado a rumanos, portugueses y españoles a domicilio.

La Selección española volverá a estar encabezada por el capitán y tercera línea Iván Criado. Glynn mantiene el bloque principal de jugadores, recuperando a los delanteros Sergio Souto y Chema Bohórquez, que sufrieron molestias ante Rumania, y el regreso a una convocatoria del talonador Gabriel Ligneres, el pilier Igor Alberro y el ala Martín Heredia.

Junto a ellos estarán los delanteros del Cetransa El Salvador Ion Insausti y Manuel Serrano. Javier Salazar (Bwin Pozuelo Boadilla CRC) que cumplió 50 partidos como internacional ante Rumania volverá a vestir la camiseta de España en Rusia y Juan González (Bwin Pozuelo Boadilla CRC) sustituirá al lesionado Alfonso Mata. Además de los ‘sevillanos’ Leandro Fernández-Aramburu y Rafael Camacho (Helvetia Rugby), el segunda línea César Bernasconi (F.C. Barcelona) y los terceras ‘hispano-franceses’ Julen Tourtoulou y Cyril Hijar.

Como organizadores del juego, el donostiarra Pablo Feijóo regresa de Inglaterra de jugar en la disciplina del Leicester Tigers inglés, para tomar el mando del equipo como medio melé junto al apertura y pateador Mathieu Gratton. En la línea de tres cuartos, Glynn tendrá que decidir entre los centros Javier Canosa (Bwin Pozuelo Boadilla), Jaime Nava (Jeep Alcobendas) o Manuel Mazo (Cajasol Ciencias), los alas Ignacio Martín (Spyro Bera Bera RT), Matías Tudela y César Sempere, zaguero (ambos Bwin Pozuelo Boadilla CRC).

La visita a Krasnodar es de las más complicadas del calendario del Europeo FIRA-AER, pero España ya sabe lo que es ganar a los rusos en campo. En la Fase de Clasificación para el Campeonato del Mundo de Australia 2003, el XV del León lo dio todo para llevarse el triunfo (22-38) el 24 de noviembre de 2002.
